This research article investigates puppy mortality, a significant issue in canine reproduction. Researchers evaluated a modified Apgar scoring system, administered by breeders, to assess newborn puppy health. The study examined the correlation between this modified Apgar score, birth weight, delivery times, growth rates, and puppy mortality. Results indicate that the modified Apgar score and relative birth weight are associated with puppy survival, suggesting its usefulness in identifying at-risk puppies. The findings propose a simplified, breeder-administered neonatal assessment protocol to improve puppy health outcomes.
